Dr Sonja Coetzee

Dr Sonja Coetzee graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1993 and completed her Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1997.

Being a GP has always been her ambition, and throughout her career she has remained committed to traditional, face-to-face general practice. Dr Coetzee has worked extensively with the West Australian Country Health Service, often in remote and rural locations where she served as a solo GP while also managing local hospital inpatient and emergency department services. Her most notable placements include Leonora Hospital, Wyndham Hospital, and Kalumburu.

During the Covid pandemic, Dr Coetzee played a key role in delivering and administering the first vaccines to remote regional communities. She also worked at the Centre for National Resilience in Howard Springs, NT, caring for more than 2,000 returning overseas travellers in quarantine, and later completed a short locum on Christmas Island.

Dr Coetzee is passionate about delivering patient-centred care and continues to enjoy the variety, complexity, and connection that general practice offers.
